Maifest Parade Sat. May 3rd

Dear Alumni Band,

We are honored to be invited to Brenham for the Maifest Parade.  The parade is Saturday, May 3rd at 10:00am.
For those in Austin we will meet at Moton Crockett's Office Parking Lot, 317 S. Congress around 7:00am so we can head out by 7:30am to caravan to Brenham.  Let us know if you are interested in joining the caravan, so we don't leave without anyone.
For anyone who has not been before this is a lot of fun and they take very good care of us.  They feed us well and let us go around downtown TWICE on a trailer!!!  There is FREE: BBQ, Blue Bell Ice Cream, and Beer at the park following the parade.  And they always have a very generous donation to the scholarship fund which is what it is all about!
For those who want to go on their own here are driving instructions from Austin and Houston for our Houston area folks that want to help out.

Comin' On Strong Tour Invitation

Alumni Band has been cordially invited to perform at four of the cities this month to welcome Charlie Strong. The tours will take place from 6-8p.m. All performers are invited. UT Athletics has agreed to pick up the tab, so bring your appetites & instruments!

Please support this event by confirming your presence with the following area reps below by Apr 20th. Out of 3,000 members we have roughly 10 performers or less at each city. They need more instrumentation to make this a success! Playing event details are on the LHAB Blast Blog.

JACKETS AND STETSONS

We have decided to order a second round of jackets for those whom didn't purchase theirs on Dec. 1st. Your jackets will vary slightly in zipper color. LHAB will embroider the patches, Longhorn logo, and ship it to London. The approximate cost is $60 and will be included in your final payment.

It's time to order your white Stetson. See the measuring guide on the FAQs or you can walk into Allen's Boots for a fitting. Every marcher, except tubas and twirlers, must order Stetsons. Tubas will wear burnt orange Santa hats. (LHAB will order those on your behalf.) Any non- marching member of your party may order a stetson.  LHAB will ship the Stetsons at a group rate in hat boxes to London. The approximate cost is $80 and will be included in your final payment. Order Jackets & Stetsons now!
The deadline for placing all orders is Thursday, May 15th. Remember you must be in the approved uniform to participate in the parade.

LONDON UPDATE

Dear London Participants,

Thank you for signing up to march in our first international parade! We are excited about this new venture and look forward to working with all of you. Lots of valuable information is included in this email. I suggest that you save it and read it thoroughly.

We are doing our best to keep you informed, but the exact itinerary will not be set until after the site visit in the summer.  What I can provide you is a sample itinerary from London's New Year's Day Parade (LNYDP) and a LNYDP 2013 itinerary book that I received. Happy reading!

After reviewing the updated London contract, the package price has increased by $45. The “offer document” price was correct at the time we signed it, but subsequent to that (indeed in the last two weeks) airlines have imposed two additional fuel surcharges since the offer was made to LHAB. One fee of $25 which was imposed in November 2013 and a further surcharge of $20 which was imposed in mid-February. This additional amount will be included with your final payment.

LONDON BANDMATES

You've been asking for a list of who's going. Well here it is. Log in as a member to www.lhab.org--London 2015---Attendee List.

Letter from Paula Crider

Greetings LHAB:

I am tremendously excited to learn that the Longhorn Alumni Band
will take its’ inimitable spirit abroad for the first time next
December, and I shall be proud to serve as a UT faculty
liaison for the trip. I have enjoyed adjudicating the London
New Year’s Day Parade for a number of years,
and can think of no better way to visit one of the world’s
great cities than with the LHAB. It is truly a wonderful
trip, with many opportunities to enjoy other European cities
after the parade. (Paris is a quick Eurostar trip away!)

I can already imagine the excitement generated as the
sounds of LHAB bounce off the Houses of Parliament,
and draw huge crowds in Trafalgar Square.

I encourage all who are able to sign up for what could
well be the trip of a lifetime. Nefertiti Williams has already
thrown down the gauntlet: 400 marchers will exceed the
size of any band to have marched in the LNYDP!

Cheers & Hook Em!

CANCELLATION, REFUNDS, AND INSURANCE FOR LONDON

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS

The first deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE for any reason.  All other deposits are refundable until April 15th. After that there are no refunds but you MAY be able to transfer some of your deposit to another traveler.  Your options are to 1) receive a refund from LHAB for your payments from February onward minus the first deposit or 2) find another traveler(s) to transfer all of the funds you have currently paid to their account and have them personally reimburse you (this can only be done once enough people have signed up to cover the spots that you signed up for).  LHAB is not facilitating any transaction between you and another traveler, and in the event that you transfer funds to or from another traveler you are fully responsible and liable for the transaction and any charges, costs, or consequences that result from it.

CANCELLATION AND INSURANCE

After September 1, 2014, when the Passenger Manifest (name list) is turned in, travelers who are covered by the trip cancellation insurance that is included in the program (which includes a $40 supplemental charge for those age 72 or older) covers you for an “unforeseen medical emergency unrelated to a pre-existing condition”.    In other words, should the traveler have a condition that prohibits them to travel, as documented by a Doctor’s letter, they can apply for a full refund of their deposits (less a $70/person processing fee charged by Lloyd’s of London).  Things like illness, death of a spouse, heart attack, house fire, broken leg etc are covered.  Second heart attack, reaction to 8th chemo treatment, a broken heart, changed your mind, didn’t get your Passport in time, military deployment, changed jobs are examples of things not covered.
We strongly advise everyone to read the full terms and conditions of the insurance policy, as this is a contract between you and the insurer.  We want everyone to take the time to be well-informed regarding their rights and responsibilities.
