Letter from the President- Summer 2015

Happy Summer 2015 Alumni!

Your officers, directors, and trustee members have accomplished so much within the last quarter.  We are sad to report we've had some changes within our leadership. Ben Brooks resigned as President Elect and BOT member due to his flourishing business. We are happy to report that JoLyn Peters has stepped up to fulfill his term for this year. Please welcome her with open arms. We are excited to have her leadership.

Here are a few quick updates as to what's new in our organization.
Band Day weekend, Sept. 18-19th,  is quickly approaching and your officers plan to have registration open by mid August. Another Band Day Blast will be sent along with all the information you need. Check back with us in about one month.

Thank you for your continued support with LHAB. We appreciate all of you and will see you in September.

Hook 'Em,
Nefertiti Williams
LHAB President 2015

Call to Serve for Longhorn Alumni Band

Hello Newest and Veteran Alums!

Being accepted as Longhorn Band member was probably one of the greatest opportunities you experienced during your time at UT. It provided you with a lifetime of memories, friendships, networking skills and for some of your soul mate. Now Longhorn Alumni Band needs you to serve.
We are looking for people with fresh ideas, commitment to excellence, UT spirit, and can collaborate with the young and veteran alumni.

The volunteering term is for only one year, once a month, for about an hour. You can even hold a position and not live in the Austin area. Closer to Alumni Band day the meetings tend to be slightly longer until things are accomplished. The committee is accepting nominations for the 2016 year.

(You can find even more details at www.lhab.org under leadership tab--- job descriptions.) I hope to hear from many of you soon.

Please feel free to email the nominating committee or myself with questions.

JoLyn Peters (Chair of Nominating Committee)
Joe Dahlstrom
Heather Wright

Best of luck to you in all your endeavors,
Nefertiti

Houston Area Update

The Houston Chapter of LHAB played an annual event for the Houston Texas Exes.  The Exes spring fund raiser is held at the River Oaks Country Club in March or April.  It is a fun event with silent and live auctions and this year we enjoyed dinner with the Exes.  We closed the event with the Eyes of Texas and Texas Fight.

We also played for a memorial service for Judge John Singleton.  Judge Singleton was a UT graduate, a former Cowboy, and a Cheerleader during his years at Texas.  He had asked his wife to see if we would play at his service after hearing us play at Louis M. Pearce's service in January of 2013.

Our appearance at Judge Singleton's memorial service resulted in an invitation to play at a meeting of the Forty Acres Society held at a private home.  We played as the guests arrived and then led the group in the Eyes and Texas Fight.

We have received donations to our scholarship fund for all appearances.

We have been invited to play for a 50th birthday party on July 18th at the Magnolia Hotel.  Still working on this one.

Hook 'Em,

Tom Staton
Houston Area Representative

Longhorn Alumni Band Charitable Fund Update

The LHABCT, better known as the BOT, has two vacancies to be elected at Band Day.

One is a 2-year term and one is a 3-year term.  We are soliciting nominees.

The BOT meets quarterly and manages the scholarship funds, sets up the guidelines for the scholarships, manages the scoring, and other duties that involve the awarding of the LHB scholarships.  You do need to be available and attend the meetings.  We also keep a record of contributions and award the various plaque categories.

If you are interested, please email Donna Beth McCormick, President of the BOT (dbmc@texas.net) or Scott Hendrix, President of the Board of Directors (hendrix2009@att.net).

Ms. Alexandra Gotliboski, Administrative Associate
Ms. Gotliboski joins us in the University Bands office, and comes to us from the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston.  She is a graduate of the Moody College of Communication, and comes from a family of proud Longhorns!  She has jumped into her work with both feet, and has made an immediate positive impact on our program. We are very happy to have her join our team!
