2014/2015 Basketball Games

Alumni!!

We are starting to put together bands for the 2014/2015 Basketball Games that occur during the Holiday season.

Alumni are invited to make themselves available for ALL games, but the MBB vs Texas State game on December 13 is our very first ALUMNI Basketball Game!  If you are ONLY available for that game, please still fill out the survey.  Mark that you are an alum, so I can give you preference for that game.

1.  Students that play these games are compensated $35 for each game played payed in cash at the event.  Games typically last about two hours from the tip.
2.  Performers are asked to be in the band seats with uniform and all equipment at the Erwin Center 45 minutes before the tip-off of each game.  This means that players should arrive one hour before tip off to change and get their music book and stand (located at Erwin Center).
3.  Uniform: JEANS, White Tshirt (Pullover Top provided at Erwin Center) - Change into uniform in Band Locker Room.  Please wear a WHITE SHIRT under your basketball top. After the game, you can put your uniform away in the locker room and directly depart.
4.  Parking passes are single-use and disposable.  Players will pick up parking passes for any/all games they are playing from the Band Office Staff during regular business hours (M-F; 8am-5pm). Parking is in Lot 70.  Link to Basketball Parking map showing Lot 70. http://www.utexas.edu/parking/basketball.html
5.  Players should enter the Erwin Center through the Red River doors and identify themselves as band members.
6.  Once rosters are set, players are expected to find a substitute on the same instrument in the event of a conflict.
7.  There is a rehearsal in the Band Hall on Tuesday, December 9.  You are REQUIRED attend this ONLY rehearsal if you are playing ANY games.
8.  The MBB vs Texas State game on Saturday, December 13 is the OFFICIAL Alumni game.  Alumni will be given first preference on this game only and there is a special rehearsal for that game on Saturday, December 13 from 12PM to 1:30PM in the Band Hall.  If you are ONLY playing this one game, you don't need to attend the rehearsal on December 9, but need to attend THIS rehearsal.
9.  Alumni are invited to ALL the games.  Current students get first preference, but we almost always have a few slots for our dedicated alumni to fill throughout the holidays.  We GREATLY appreciate your help over the holidays!
10.  If you are available for ANY of the following games, please fill out the following survey:

Available = you can play that game
Unavailable = you cannot play that game
*If you're not a UT student, create any number in the EID text box to submit your survey. *

Links & Lyrics - Benefitting the DKR Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease

Since 2012, the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease has worked to raise money and awareness for the crippling and fatal disease.  The Fund's annual " Ben-Willie-Darrell Links & Lyrics Gala" serves to continue the fight against Alzheimer's disease through community collaboration and research.

We have been asked to perform at this year's Gala on Friday, September 5th.  This performance takes place AFTER our usual UT Club gig. We performed last year March 2013 at the DKR Fund event featuring Willie Nelson.

The organizers of the DKR Fund have graciously offered to shuttle us from the UT Club to ACL Live's Moody Theater to play this event.  Food and drinks will be provided, as well as shuttle service back to our parking garage. If you prefer not to shuttle but take your own transportation, parking will be provided at the Silicon Labs garage on Lavaca Street.

Call To: 5:45 PM @ UT Club (parking as usual)
Arrival at ACL Moody Theater: 7:15 PM - Store instruments, head to mezzanine for snacks and drinks.
Performance: Approx. 8:15 PM - After we play, you have the option to stay and enjoy the evening or leave if you took your own transportation.
Return to UT Club/Parking: 10:45 PM or at completion of Vince Gill show.

Please follow the link and complete to survey if you are interested in attending.

Hello all,
Coach Strong, his staff, and the team are hosting a preseason luncheon on Thursday, August 14, at the Erwin Center. Here's the final schedule:

11:40 line up & wait
11:55 March Grandioso
12:07 Store instruments for luncheon & eat
1:00 Retrieve instruments during speech; return to line up
1:15-1:25 Be ready to play Eyes of Texas. May play other Traditionals if Coach Strong's speech is brief.

If you're new and attending we wear solid black pants, socks, shoes, and a collard white shirt. Alumni vests will be provided.
.
Please contact George Moxley if you are available.
Thanks,
Nefertiti

UT Club Pep Rally WEDNESDAY, NOV. 27th

We will be at the UT Club Wednesday November 27th before the Texas Tech game for our last UT Club pep rally for this year.

Please come out and make our last one a good one.  We know many will be going out of town for the holiday but come if you can so we can make another good showing and be invited back next year.

Hope to see you there.

UT Club Pep Rally Fri. Nov.15th

We are back at the UT Club this Friday for another pep rally.
We need to be there by 6:15pm so we can be ready to play at 6:30pm.

Again, for anyone who is new to the UT Club, it is located inside the stadium and the entrance is on the East side of the Stadium. Take the elevator to the 7th floor. They provide us with appetizers and drinks.

We have done this for the past several years and it is a great time. We really need a good turnout for this and ALL of the events we are asked to play for.

****LHAB members are encouraged to sign up for games.  Because of seating limitations, I cannot just send an open invitation to any game.  So, if an LHAB member signs up and then is assigned to games, then that person will most definitely play.

Due to the nature of student availability over the Holiday break, I'd like to get as many people as possible to fill out the survey so that we always have options.****

Dedication Playing Event Thursday, Nov. 7

Dr. Carnochan has asked if there is any chance of getting a small group of LHAB members together to play for the dedication of the naming of the new Communications Building on November 7 around 5:45 PM.
LHB is swamped, it's a rehearsal night and this was a late request, but they are trying to help them out anyway we can.

Please email George if you are able to play.
